Youth Voice in Local Government: City of Mankato
- Environmental Committee
- Appointed by the Mankato City Council, advisory to the Mankato City Manager and the Mankato City Council: The primary function of the Environmental Committee is to review each public project and each private project in any environmentally sensitive area and to consider the environmental impacts of the project.
- Mass Transit Advisory Committee
- Appointed by the Mankato City Council, advisory to the Mankato City Manager and the Mankato City Council: The primary function of the Mass Transit Advisory Committee is to make recommendations to the City Council concerning the city bus system. This includes bus schedule changes and services, revenues and expenditures, special needs of various users of the city bus such as the handicapped, vision impaired, and senior citizens, and assure input from these groups; develop public information programs to encourage use of the city bus including the program FAST pass which provides free city bus service to youth in Mankato and North Mankato.
- Planning Commission
- Appointed by the Mankato City Council, advisory to the Mankato City Manager and the Mankato City Council: The primary function of the Planning Commission is to make recommendations to the City Council regarding proposed planning and zoning (construction is allowable based on zones) requests including: variances from the city code, conditional use permits and rezoning applications. Other duties include subdivision review, review of proposed ordinance (government regulation) changes, and assisting in updating the comprehensive plan.
- Traffic and Safety Committee
- Appointed by and advisory to the Mankato City Manager and the Mankato City Manager. The primary function of the Traffic and Safety Committee is to review requests for stop sign placement, traffic signal lights, etc. It is an internal committee to discuss and evaluate technical concerns related to public requests or traffic and safety changes initiated by staff. Mankato Area Public Schools also has a staff representative on this committee.
- Appointments committee
- Appointments Committee members are appointed by the Mankato City Council, advisory to the Mankato City Manager and Mankato City Council. The primary function of the Appointments Committee is to recruit, screen, select and recognize members on Mankato citizen committees.
