Spring Cleanup - First Four Saturdays in May

Take part in Mankato’s annual Spring Cleanup, a value-added benefit of the city’s garbage and recycling service. Electronics and televisions are two of the most frequently accepted items at the city’s annual Spring Cleanup. Items not accepted are cement, asphalt, tires, appliances, recyclable materials, or hazardous waste. For more information call 387-8649.

Includes refrigerators (no recreational vehicle refrigerators), water heaters, dehumidifiers, humidifiers, ranges, air conditioners, microwaves, residential furnaces, dryers, washers, dishwashers, freezers, trash compactors, garbage disposals and water softeners.

Appliances will be picked up at residents’ addresses curbside at no charge for scheduled appointments only during the month of May. Call Mankato’s Public Works office at (507)387-8649 to schedule an appointment.

Televisions and computers may be disposed of at no cost by bringing them to the Public Works building, 221 Lamm Street, only during the May Spring Cleanup days.

Grass clippings and leaves may be taken to the Southern Minnesota Construction compost site, 3600 Third Avenue, through November 15.

Compost Disposal Fees (Per-Bag or Per-Load):

Bag (33 gallon) of leaves and grass...........................75¢
Cubic yard of leaves and grass................................$4.50
Cubic yard of brush...........................................................$8
Cubic yard of branches 12inches or longer...............$15

Please do not dump grass clippings, leaves or other items into or along ravine areas. This can saturate and kill vegetation, which contributes to ravine destabilization.

Hazardous Waste Disposal

Take hazardous waste to the Blue Earth County Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 651 Summit Avenue. Hazardous wastes including paints, solvents, pesticides, gasoline, propane and fertilizers will be accepted at no charge. Dispose of any chemicals not used because accumulated products can create health and safety risks.

The following items will not be accepted: farm, business, institutional, commercial, medical, radioactive and explosive wastes; oil and filters.

The Household Hazardous Waste Facility is open Tuesdays from noon to 6 p.m. and the second Saturday of the month from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
