Safety Tips

Mankato Departmant of Public Safety fire and police staff protect and serve the community in many ways. One of those ways is through providing safety messages and tips that can contribute to citizen safety.

Bike Safety
With the continued rise in gas prices, the City of Mankato and communities throughout the United States are seeing a significant increase in the public’s use of bicycles and motorized scooters. The Mankato Department of Public Safety supports and encourages the citizens of Mankato to enjoy these activities and would like to take an opportunity to educate and inform the community on laws and safety issues pertaining to bicycling and the use of motorized scooters. Information will be sent out in a two part series, the first part focusing on bicycle safety.

Carbon Monoxide Alarms
Every single family dwelling and every multifamily dwelling unit shall be provided with a minimum of one approved and fully operational carbon monoxide alarm installed within ten feet of each room, used for sleeping. If bedrooms are located on separate floors additional carbon monoxide alarms will be required.

Fireworks
On April 30, 2002 Minnesota made it legal to possess, sell and use some types of fireworks. Minnesota was quite selective in which fireworks were going to be allowed.

As the days get nicer, more people are spending time doing outdoor activities including outdoor grilling and recreational burning. The Mankato Department of Public Safety wants to ensure the safest and most positive experiences by providing the following useful tips to help keep you and your family safe.
