Public Information

Mankato’s Public Information staff oversees the communication efforts for the City of Mankato and Mankato Area Public Schools. Staff works to increase awareness, interest and participation through a variety of tools including the website, newsletters, news releases, special events, utility bill inserts, focus groups, Quality of Life package drawings and the Mankato Minute, to name a few. The communication partnership between the City of Mankato and Mankato Area Public Schools provides benefits to taxpayers through intergovernmental cooperation. A communication plan ensures Mankato’s key messages are derived from its Strategic Plan.

Resource Documents and Files

  • City Calendar A 38-year tradition, the city publishes a calendar designed to communicate information about public meeting dates and locations, contact information, 24-hour service numbers and key city service messages.
  • Communication Plan Well-planned communications are the heart of any sucessful public information effort. A communication program built on strong themes, not scattered messages, is usually most effective. Because the primary focus is to be in alignment with local citizens, a good communication plan highlights priorities and takes a proactive approach in planning and executing communication. Residents want staff to be responsive to their needs. Two-way communication is the core of knowing what citizens want.
