What is MVCOG?

The Minnesota Valley Council of Governments (MVCOG) is a voluntary cooperative association of 15 cities and 2 counties working together to enhance their abilities to provide quality service to their communities. The focus of MVCOG adapts to the changing needs of the members jurisdictions.

What does MVCOG do?

MVCOG staff responds to specific requests for technical assistance from member jurisdictions, as well as undertaking projects benefiting all members. The majority of projects involve providing planning, human resources, and administrative assistance to members, although program flexibility allows MVCOG to assist in a wide variety of projects. Non-member cities within member counties are entitled to 16 hours of MVCOG assistance on an annual basis.

Mankato Intergovenmental Center

MVCOG is based out of the Intergovernmental Center in Mankato, MN

MVCOG provides a wide variety of services to its members. A very limited sample of such services include:

  • Preparing salary schedules and conducting salary surveys
  • Preparing ordinances, policies and resolutions
  • Preparing grant applications and providing grant administration
  • Providing technical assistance on planning and zoning, general administrative, economic development, and human resources issues
  • Developing personnel policies, position descriptions, and employment application forms
  • Conducting safety and loss control programming
  • Organizing conferences and workshops
  • Developing and presenting training programs on local government issues.
