Inspections are done to ensure that existing buildings and new constructing are aligned with the Uniform Building Code and other regulations. Prior to any building, Mankato homeowners are required to obtain a building permit. Permits are available on the second floor of the Intergovernmental Center, 10 Civic Center Plaza.

The purpose of various Building Codes are to provide minimum standards to safeguard life or limb, health, property and public welfare by regulating and controlling the design, construction, quality of materials, use and occupancy, location and maintenance of all buildings, structures and certain equipment within this jurisdiction.
