Public Safety Fire
The Mankato Department of Public Safety has a combination fire department with both full-time and volunteer firefighters. The combination full-time/volunteer makeup provides good service to the community at a very reasonable cost. On the full-time side, commanders provide leadership and supervision in areas such as incident command, fire prevention and education, investigations, training and the maintenance of stations and equipment. The full-time firefighters provide the expertise in training, inspections, investigations and hazardous material responses. The volunteers provide the needed staffing, primarily at night, to handle fire, medical and other emergency calls for service.
